On Assignment

For the last few months I have been thinking a lot about the program, 'Touched by an Angel'. Angels appeared as humans to people who were in need of God's revelation of love for them. I wonder if we too, in our intimacy with God, can sense and know that we are on assignment. This idea seems to emerge now in my daily reflection as I seek to understand God's presence in daily encounters and activities. The person chatting to me in the grocery line, the friends in my life, the connections through facebook, those with whom I work, are perhaps the ones assigned to me to reveal God's presence. And on a grander scale, perhaps there is an assignment tailor made for me by God that I am called to attend to. My prayer is that we deeply listen to our heart, to God and to those around us and that we have the courage and wisdom to respond.

The Tomb

This past Easter Saturday as I pondered the tomb, I wondered: What are the tombs that can no longer contain us? After the betrayal and agony, the tomb could not contain Jesus. I wonder what the tombs are in our lives. Religious boxes, securities that we embrace but not life giving, pain, betrayal. As we sit and ponder these deadening forces at work in our lives, I pray we seek and find the graced courage to burst forth from these tombs with new resurrected hope and life.

Finding God in the Story of our Lives

The Book invites the reader to reflectively explore their story in light of God's activity and invitations. There are seven chapters wherein one can explore along with the author, their ancestral heritage, family of origin, growing up experiences, vocational choices, love interests, and both challenging and enriching experiences along life's journey.

People who have read it said:

How can anyone ever comment on the mystery and gift of a personal story? However, the integration of your narrative and reflection on God in your life are very thoughtful. The way you ground your personal experience in the light of faith is quite meaningful. In particular, I believe that your invitations to meditation and the reflective questions at the end of each chapter will lead others to insight and grace as they too "find God in the story of their lives". - Kathleen Mcalpin Professor Spiritual Direction, Regis College, University of Toronto, Ontario

This video explains leads you through a prayer experience called the Awareness Examen.

The awareness examen is one of the oldest prayers in the Christian tradition and invites us to reflect on our daily life with and in the divine.
